Brisbane Based and needing assistance for addiction?

I have compiled this incomplete list for a friend who had a friend who's partner was in trouble...... so I decided to put the list here so that I can direct further enquires here.. and so that I only need to compile it once.. all comments are just my opinion and carry no professional backing.
An outline of what is known to me in regard to rehabilitation options in Queensland for drug and alcohol ( and in some instances gambling).. not a complete list but a start..
The client needs to have been through a detox to enter a rehab... there is a good list in the pdf document that is on the Goorie house (down the bottom of the list) website..
There are further options for individuals with private health cover.
This list is primarily for those without private cover. There is usually some intitial entrance cost and ongoing fee but it is the smallest you'll be able to find.. If you know of any other please comment here.
For a female the options are very limited.
Lucinda House
Ozcare ( St Vincents) has two residential rehabs for men… one in Ipswich and one in Cooparoo. Also ‘in house’ .. see web link above. Both co-ordinators of those services in May 08 are known to me and are highly likely to be of help to the client and family.

For women with Children… Karalika in Canberra
r Odyssey House in Sydney
Assistance for women with children to stay at home and receive home support visits. ..
Amend is run via Spiritus (St Luke’s)
AMEND (Assisting Mothers to End the Need for Drugs)138 Juliette Street, Greenslopes 4120PO Box 167 Stones Corner 4120Phone: 07 3421 2845 Fax: 07 3421 2888
A home-based relapse prevention and management service that is free of charge for pregnant and parenting women who want to deal with their use of alcohol and other drugs and the impact these have on their own lives and the lives of their families. Participation is voluntary and free of charge.

Rehab ….very good for heroin addiction…. The Buttery near Byron Bay- the only tricky bit I found there was to enter back into the community in Brisbane when so much of your support network has been manufactured in Byron.

To get into a rehab your client needs to have been detoxed… some rehabs have their own detox….
FAIRHAVEN DETOX UNIT – Lot 497 Parklands Dve, Southport. Ph: 07 5571 5248. Provide short term detoxification for people wanting to withdraw from alcohol. Introduction to the 12 step programme of AA.
FAIRHAVEN REHABILITATION UNIT – Lot 497 Parklands Dve, Southport. Ph: 07 5594 7288 longer-term residential programme for people with drug or alcohol problems.
PALM BEACH CURRUMBIN PRIVATE CLINIC – 37 Bilinga St, Currumbin. Ph: 07 5534 4944 or 1800 819 851. Private psychiatric clinic providing detox and treatment for people with drug and alcohol problems. Included is group therapy and introduction to AA and the 12 step programme.
MIRAKAI - West Burleigh Rd, Burleigh Heads. Ph: 07 5535 4302 – provide a long term residential treatment programme for young people with drug and alcohol problems – 15 to 29yrs. Also offer telephone counselling; out client groups; family therapy; drug diversion initiatives and community awareness education courses.

I found the below publication suggested via Mirakai- book for sale for families.

The below link is to a pdf document in relation to Moonyah- in Red Hill – rehab which has the drug diversion program in place ( as does Mirakai)- so if the individual is in difficulty with the law this may be an option- depending on where the case is heard.. I know Ipswich and Beenleigh are part of the program.
This Rehab includes chapel so it does ‘sell’ Christianity and Salvation Army and is based on abstinence and 12 step programs… AA and NA… but if you can ‘take what you like and leave the rest’.. It does provide residential care and support – you can get a Dr’s certificate and can be given sickness benefits via centrelink- the rehab is then ‘paid’ from this benefit.
